How often does my child need therapy?
There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to therapy as each child is unique with a different learning style and profile of needs. As such, when therapy is offered I bear in mind the needs of the child as well as the needs of the family and this can be adapted in terms of approach and frequency accordingly. I would love to be able to prescribe a set “amount” and wave a magic wand to make this happen, but every child responds differently and it is my job to adapt to get the most from them. On this basis therapy can look like;

Therapy works best if everyone practices and “little and often” is far more effective than just “once a week” or a one-off. With my approach I work with the whole family (wherever possible) and the adults working and interacting with the child so that everybody can get on board and support them to the best of their ability. This can be simply awareness-raising, teaching a simple language strategy to use, what NOT to say at times (!) or games to practice skills. The more the merrier I say!
I provide resources, pictures or worksheets as required and tracker sheets of progress. When required I can provide target sheets with a full programme of work to aid educational settings, if this is requested. I will advise on commercially available resources to support your child within their educational setting and if I feel you would benefit from purchasing this resource to use at home.
I advise all my clients if I feel an NHS referral is needed and actively encourage them to engage in the process and the therapy offered. I am always happy to liaise (with parents permission) with the NHS Therapists and am able to either continue or suspend my services whilst NHS therapy is being delivered, according to parental wishes.
If I feel that I do not have the clinical specialism to manage your child’s needs, I will signpost to other therapists to the best of my ability.
